Aziza Mims

RE Teacher

The opportunity to work at Emerson UU with your Lower Elementary RE class has been a real privilege. I look forward to getting to know everyone in the coming weeks and months. To share a little bit about myself, I’ve been married to Carnegie Mims, III for almost 23 years and we have six beautiful Blessings. The oldest two are in college.

I am a passionate educator and artist who loves to craft, puzzle and garden. I mean, after all there is something special about soil. Before joining the RE team at Emerson, I was a middle school art teacher, and a director of children and teens at a local United Methodist church (not simultaneously).

I had the privilege of attaining my BFA from the Chadwick Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University in Washington, DC (also where my college Blessings attend). I obtained my degree in art with a specialty in graphic design and digital applications. Currently, I enjoy printmaking, fabric art, quilting, and collaborative murals.

My joy for planning and love of children only makes my job as an RE teacher that much more fun.

My goal this year is to increase my book count. So please share any good-read recommendations. Beyond reading, gardening and puzzling, you can find me at any local museum.
