Patty Ryan, ESL Program Coordinator

Patty Ryan

ESL Program Coordinator

I was born in Houston and grew up in Pasadena.  The first time I attended a UU church was in 1968 after the assassinations of MLK and RFK and heard Rev. Horace Westwood offer words of hope.  I was a member of First UU from 1975 until 1980 when I moved to El Paso.  I returned to Houston in 1987 and became very active in RE / AYS (pre-cursor to OWL) when I taught for several years.  I again left Houston in 2005 and moved to the Austin area and joined First Church Austin.  Houston (or should I say the birth of my first grandchild) called me back in 2021, where I again renewed my membership at First UU Houston.

Most of my career was in higher education, working as executive assistants at Baylor College of Medicine, The University of Texas System, and The University of Texas.  As I like to say, I’ve saved the best career for my last career, to be here at Emerson working to grow the ESL program.  I’m so thankful for the support I’ve received from Rev. Ed and Ale, and many others Emerson members who have come to introduce themselves and offer help.
