Director of Music

Miles Ward is a public-school teacher of music currently serving in his 13th year. He taught high school and middle school piano and choir classes where he led his varsity groups to the first UIL Sweepstakes awards in the school’s history; the highest honor.

During the COVID pandemic, while school districts were reshuffling, he agreed to try his hand at teaching elementary music which he fell in love with instantly and has been teaching ever since!

Miles is a professional opera singer and has been singing in the chorus with The Houston Grand Opera since the 2019-2020 season. He even performed a solo role in Puccini’s Turandot! Additionally, he performed in The San Francisco Opera chorus and was invited to audition for The Metropolitan Opera in New York City. By the end of the 2026-2027 season, he will have performed in thirteen professional operas, four collegiate operas, and one regional opera.

A self-professed nerd, he earned his bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Miles looks forward to expanding his love of music to Emerson where he hopes to grow the choir in both members and quality in addition to challenging his piano accompanying skills for the annual musical.
