Keep Your Eyes on the Prize, Hold On

Perhaps no other event of modern U.S. history more exemplifies this month’s theme of “Persistence” than the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Keep Your Eyes on the Prize was one of the songs the black community sang over and over to keep their spirits up as they walked to work on tired feet for over a year. It was not only music, though, that held the boycott together but also the sheer grit and tenacity born of a desire to transmute a shameful past to one of glory.
