On August 24th, we enrolled 96 students at ESL Fall registration! The student languages that were represented included Spanish (58), Russian (15), Farsi (6), Vietnamese (2), Portuguese (1) and other (14). This number of students enables us to expand the program to include 5 levels:, basic, 1,2,3 and 4.
The fact that we had this large number of students reflects the great outreach of our program coordinator, Patty Ryan. We realize that it is very important that parents be able to communicate with their child’s teachers, so Patty went to elementary schools close to Emerson that have a large population of Hispanic students. She also contacted several cultural centers around Houston whose clients would benefit from an English learning program.
We are excited that Fall semester classes begin on Tuesday, September 3rd. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 until 8:30PM.
We are always looking for more volunteer teachers and support personal. If you have any questions about our ESL program or would like to share in the fun and enjoyment all our teachers and volunteers experience, you can reach us by emailing esl@emersonhouston.org.
