In her book “Welcoming the Unwelcome,” Buddhist nun Pema Chodron thinks about how we can interact with and accept people whose beliefs are antithetical to our own. Many of us feel sadness about the divisiveness that is so prevalent in America today; we might also be angry or even fearful about some of the ideas that have gained a big following but are foreign to the way most UUs see the world. As we enter election season, and also join with extended family for the holidays, how might it be helpful or wise to embrace the different and strange, not only in others, but in ourselves and the Universe at large?
