Jane Austen is often seen as the first great English female novelist. In her 6 major novels, she not only developed interesting characters and situations in the English society of her time, but she also addressed issues fundamental to the place of women in that society. She thus contributed to later feminist movements that advanced the roles of women. On the 250th anniversary of her birth, there is much to learn about sociological and moral aspects of society by studying Jane Austen. This will be a review of her work and legacy.
