This session will examine spiritual factors that influenced early Christianity, beginning with documentation in the New Testament concerning Jesus and Paul, then briefly mentioning Gnostic beliefs, and finally addressing the Desert Fathers and their influence on subsequent monasticism. The remainder of this session will deal with Christian mysticism in the East.
