Our Next Production!

Actors needed – “Frankly Speaking, a Funereal Farce” (A Musical)

“Frankly Speaking: A Funereal Farce” is a ridiculous yet thought-provoking musical farce set at a wake where the dearly departed, Frank, was charming and hilarious but also incredibly infuriating to anyone who actually knew him well. Frank’s third ex-wife attends the wake in hopes of getting some real closure about the mess Frank made of her life, only to be horrified by the arrival of the Pastafarians and the Just-Us League (a second-class superheroes group), who reveal that Frank was far more (and far more ridiculous) than she had ever imagined.

There’s a cast of 10, with 3 roles left to cast:
Female, 40’s to 50’s, strong singer – Karen, the third divorcee of the recently departed Frank, rather bitter about the failed marriage and hoping that the wake will provide some closure. A classic “Karen.”

Male preferred, 30’s to 70’s, moderately strong singer – Oblivio, a second-class superhero whose superpower is being incredibly insightful on very rare occasions and completely oblivious the rest of the time.

Male, 40’s to 50’s, strong singer – Blake, a frat brother of Frank’s who’s still a big fan of him and dismayed that not everyone else is.

Rehearsals and performances will be in the sanctuary at Emerson UU Church at 1900 Bering Drive (no church affiliation needed).

Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-9:30 p.m and Sundays 1:30-4:30 p.m., starting ASAP (ideally this Sunday, March 8). There may be some additional music/voice rehearsals Wednesdays 5:30-7 p.m. but we can work around this as needed.

We’ll do the set build the afternoon of Sunday, April 19, and also kick off tech week that evening, with rehearsals every night that week, then performances the evenings of April 24 and 25 and a matinee April 26.

To be considered, please be sure you can commit to the rehearsal schedule, then please send an email with a link to a video of yourself singing any song you enjoy to hchritz (at) gmail.com or text it to Hilary at 281-224-6152.

Emerson Learn as You Go – No Audition Choir

Think you cannot sing? No auditions are necessary for this choir. Singers with all levels of experience are welcome!

Our weekly evening rehearsals every Wednesday from 7-9 pm are structured to keep the mind engaged, motivate our more experienced singers while breaking the details down enough to make sure the novice singers are able to successfully participate. We also have professional staff singers to guide in the musical development of the choir.

Emerson Players

The Emerson Players is a group of members and friends of Emerson who enjoy theater and acting. The troupe presents between one to three productions a year with smaller groups supporting other activities in the church throughout the year.

Emerson Players is an inclusive group. It includes a wide range of ages and acting experience whenever possible. The sets and props, lighting, costumes and sound are all handled by the volunteer cast and crew of the productions. The troupe is always happy for other thespians of whatever age or skill level to join the group! (Some stage crew have turned into actors and usually actors fill in as crew. We are a flexible group!) Some of the Emerson Players have gone on to acting in other community theater productions, but still are “in” for the next Players’ performance.
