Emerson, First UU, and Northwoods have teamed up to form the UU Afghan Refugee Project, and “adopted” an Afghan refugee family newly arrived in Houston.  Our family consists of Gul Hamid, Ikhlas Bibi, and their 6 children ages 14 and under.   Our plan is to ease their transition and to supplement the basic services and funds they receive.  Jointly, our goal is to raise $6000 for current needs and for the time (in 6-8 months) when federal funding ends.  No one in the family speaks English and Emerson has committed to helping with English language learning for the family.

Please contact Ellen Norton or socialaction@emersonhouston.org to find out more and join us in welcoming our Afghan family to Houston and America.
