Emerson hosts many Events that are conducted by outside organizations. Some of these events are private, but a large number are open to the public. The public events are shown on this page. The organizations conducting these events may be commercial tenants renting Emerson’s facilities, or they may be supported in some way by Emerson Church.

Pangea Day Emerson’s Schweitzer Club youth group is participating in this world-wide event. Short films have been submitted to make people laugh, pause, think, and provide a powerful glimpse into various lives on universal subjects. We intend to use Pangea Day to spread the practice of understanding, compassion and tolerance within The Schweitzer Club, Emerson Church and to the people of Houston. May 17 Music from the Silk Road  Asia Society presents music from Uzbekistan on the Rothko Chapel plaza. In the 18th and 19th centuries, a tradition of court music, performed largely by Jews or Muslims of Jewish origin, developed in Bhukara. The Izro Malakov Ensemble performers emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1990s and perform regularly at the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music, Smithsonian Folklife Festival, the Silk Road Project directed by Yo-Yo Ma and at colleges and universities across the U.S. Saturday

May 21-22 Fragments from Augustine the Saint  Tenor Kenneth Gayle, Lauren Anderson of Houston Ballet, and featured guest artists will perform the chamber opera Fragments from Augustine the Saint, by National Endowment for the Arts award-winning composer Dr. Beverly Grigsby. The dark, meditative environment of The Rothko Chapel will serve to intensify the musical depiction of St. Augustine’s spiritual and philosophical struggles, his “dark night of the soul,” and inner transformation. 1st Saturdays Rebel Investors Group of Houston (RIG) A select number of Houston’s most active stock market investors belong to The Rebel Investors Group of Houston. Members of this group are professional and semi-professional swing-traders and option traders, employing both fundamental and technical analysis. Rebel Investors typically use several software systems and monitor three or more multi-windowed computer screens throughout the trading day. Membership by invitation only. TBD
