The Emerson Church Choir sings for Sunday morning worship services during the church year, September through May. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays, 7:30 - 9:00 pm and Sundays, 10:45 to 11:00 am. No auditions necessary, and all voices are welcome. Contact Bonnie Wellington, our Music Director, or just show up on Wednesday night. The Choir sings at the 11:00 service.
The repertory of the choir ranges from Gregorian chant to sounds of Sweet Honey in the Rock. Three section leads from the music program at Univ. of Houston assist Bonnie during rehearsals and are always there to sit by in case you need a little help on Sunday.
Our Music Director, Bonnie Wellington, was brought up in the Unitarian Universlist Church in New York State, and has been the alto section leader and soloist for the last three years. She received her MFA from the U of Houston Music program in 2008.
In addition to the Sunday service, the Choir present a Christmas Family Vespers service and a spring musical.

Anita Butt, our excellent keyboard artist, has a few openings for lessons on Emerson’s fine instruments. Her current students rave about her teaching method. You could be playing well soon—maybe even at an Emerson event some time! Talk with Anita after worship for more details or reach her by calling the church office.
Former Productions
In celebration of Earth Day, the Emerson Unitarian Universalist choir presented Paul Winter’s Missa Gaia — Earth Mass — in 2008 and 2009. This Earth Mass, a combination of jazz and world music, features several solo and large ensemble instrumental and vocal works. This year’s performance featured a multi-media presentation on the earth, including pictures and sounds of birds, wolves, seals and humpback whales.
Pippin! was Emerson’s Spring 2007 musical production.
Anyone who saw Pippin! will affirm that it was absolutely magical. Congratulations to all who participated! The play is based on the life of Pippin, son of the 8th-century king Charlemagne. The leading player tells us the tongue-in-cheek story of Pippin, who is on a quest to find his true calling in life.
Our previous spring musical was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! In April 2006, under the direction of John Branch, Emerson presented this lighthearted Broadway musical, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. It tells the story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and their adventures in Egypt. We had a marvelous turn out—nearly every seat was filled—and the performances were wonderful!
